Our interest in the issue of education in nature arises in particular from the encounter, made possible by the partecipation to the european project BRIC and the Learning to Learn project, with the Forest School of Main, Germany, which we visited and with which we had several opportunities for discussion.
The exchange gave to the working group a real and possible variation in the purpose of being able to do school without school, that is, not necessarily inside a building, showing how natural space could be deeply re-evaluated and considered as highly educational. From 2012, in the Brescello's preschool, an educational approach is experimented and expanded which sees in the close link with nature and with "the outside" an important educational component.
This led us to see and look at the floodplain with new eyes, an environment very close to our school and inhabited in a constant and frequent way at least one day a week, all year round, with all groups and in any weather. Going into the flood plain on a weekly basis requires the implementation of a punctual organization that boys and girls share respecting shifts and sequences in preparing for the exit: wear overalls and boots, fill your water bottle and put it in the backpack looking for the name. We believe that being in a flood plain also supports different autonomies from the individual: motor, cognitive, relational, emotional autonomies, which being in a different environment from school favors.
Recently, the same approach to a systematization of educational experiences in nature has also been expanded in the Carmen Zanti intant toddler center, in which an outing on the floodplain was proposed weekly to the older children section. Experience that teachers intend to consolidate and carry on.
The educational services of the infant toddler center and the municipal preschool of Brescello are managed by the Azienda Servizi Bassa Reggiana , a public body that deals with childhood and services for the eight municipalities of the Union Bassa Reggiana : Boretto, Brescello, Gualtieri, Guastalla, Luzzara, Novellara, Reggiolo, Poviglio.
The Progettoinfanzia Association is concerned with promoting the educational philosophy of nursery schools and municipal nursery schools in the Bassa Reggiana area.
